The project at 26 Arbutus Street is a prototype house providing an example of environmentally friendly, energy efficient affordable housing. The project was completed in cooperation with Boston’s Youth Build program to help train at risk youths in green construction. Next Phase Studios worked closely with the Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) and Youth Build on this LEED prototype for low income, two-family homes.
To reduce construction waste and facilitate ease of assembly, a modular ICF foundation, stress skin panel system with modular SIPS, and a truss system constructed from recycled post-industrial wood were utilized. Overall, a high performance R45 wall, R65 roof, and quality fiberglass windows compose an energy efficient envelope. This project is LEED Gold Certified.
