Genzyme Center was a collaboration between Behnisch, Behnisch, & Partner, who won the commission in a design competition, and Next Phase Studios, who acted as the Executive Architect for the client of this environmentally progressive and innovative 350,000 square foot corporate headquarters for the Genzyme Corporation. This high-performance building features sophisticated lighting systems and environmental controls within a glass and concrete structure that is one of the most advanced in the country. Interior gardens, sensitive space planning, and daylighting, create a rich, humane, and productive work environment.
Both the design process and the end product have had profound effects on the corporate identity & culture of Genzyme. The productivity & recruitment financial metrics far outpace energy savings in value to the company. Genzyme Center has been awarded the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Platinum certification, RIBA World Medal, the 2008 Harleston Parker Medal, and is on the A.I.A’s “Top Ten Green” list.
